Why do we recommend Ubuntu Linux for all users?

Ubuntu is an alternative operating system in the same sense as Windows is. Ubuntu is a distribution of Linux, but has many advantages. Ubuntu is more secure, less virus prone. Ubuntu is quicker.

You don't have to choose!

You don't have to choose between Ubuntu and Windows you can have both. Dual booting is a system where shortly after you switch you computer on you a presented with a menu that asks which operating system you want to start.

How much does Ubuntu cost?

Ubuntu is free.

Is it hard to use?

No. Ubuntu is just as easy to use as Windows, but is different. You will have to learn some new skills. Ubuntu has some things that are actually much easier than Windows. For example installing a program is as easy as finding the program name, clicking add/remove programs, clicking on the name and clicking install. Ubuntu then downloads the program installs it and tells you it's ready to use. Most programs for Ubuntu are also free.

Ubuntu has everything you need

You can browse the internet, send an receive e-mail, create office documents, print scan, instant message, use Facebook, watch movies and everything else you can do with any other operating system.

Does Ubuntu get viruses?

Not really. There have been viruses written for Linux, but none really ever got off the ground or did any damage. In all of history Linux has had about 30 viruses written for it, you can compare that to the approximate 140,000 viruses written for Windows and you can see where we're coming from.

How do I get Ubuntu?

If you want Ubuntu right now you can get it from Canonical at www.ubuntu.com, or we can install it for you for a small fee. If you purchase a computer from us, Ubuntu can be installed by us for free, either with Windows or without.

The State Religion

The Victorian education system is still teaching Religious Education to your kids from grade 2. You may have been told this is a general religion subject but ask your teacher questions like what aspect of Islam (or any other religion) is included and you will soon find that they are teaching Christianity. You might then ask yourself questions like how does this fit in with multiculturalism? It doesn't.
