Get rid of Internet Explorer!
China has released the world's most advanced virus. The virus is a three stage attack which apparently can infect users of Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8. At this stage the damage has been limited to IE6 however.
Several companies have been attacked and the news is mostly anouncing about Google being attacked. That is the least of everyone's concerns. The most scary aspect of the new virus is that it has been used against a little-known company called Northrop Grumman. Northrop Grumman make:
- Command and control systems
- Large-scale intelligence information systems
- Missile defense systems
- Advanced radar systems
- Civil government and public safety information systems
- Conventional and nuclear powered naval ships
- Satellites for a wide variety of missions
- System sustainment, logistics support and training
- High-energy laser systems
- Health information systems
- Unmanned aerial vehicles
Other Companies to be hit by the virus include Symantec(manufacturer of Norton antivirus), Adobe and Dow chemicals. What can you do to help alleviate the situation? Well you can stop using Internet Explorer and start using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. I recommend them both, Chrome is fast, Firefox does everything you could possibly want. I use Firefox.

Microsoft release pricing on Windows 7
You read it here first! Or maybe you ddn't, anyway Microsoft have released the retail pricing on Windows 7, and claim that they will release it, world-wide, October 22nd. No surprises and no bonuses for those who lashed out and bought Vista, you must pay the same price to upgrade to Windows 7 as the users who stayed with XP. I should also state that in my opinion Microsoft have lost the OS lead. Most of what you get in Windows 7 is available now in Linux. Also if you are a power user it's more complicated. Breadcrumbs often leave you wondering exactly where in the file system you currently are, but seem to be something Microsoft has wholeheartedly embraced. Here's the pricing:
Upgrade
- Home Premium $199
- Professional $399
- Ultimate $429
Full Version Pricing
- Home Premium $299
- Professional $449
- Ultimate $469
There have been complaints already one blogger said "pay for this, I bought Vista and this is what I should have got in the first place".
